Alert! Battery drainer!

I understand the constant polling of the app for GPS updates (thats the only reason to install the app and the only way for a dashboard user to accurately track a devices location) but couldnt it just retrieve GPS data when it is requested by the dashboard? Battery life will drop considerably if
location services for this app are left on.
